Choosing a Major Based on Time
Time is relevant to each person. Some students want to graduate as efficiently as possible, while others are more flexible with their plans. Certain students might be required to change their plans midway through their education due to foreseen or unforeseen situations. Changing majors looks different to a first year student than a junior or senior.
Priority steps to choose a major based on time:
- Using the Major Checksheets website or Degree Audit, look at courses required for that major
- Consider the number of hours required for your major, how many hours you take each semester, and your willingness to take classes over the summer or winter sessions dependent on your major. This is a great conversation to complete with your Academic Advisor.
Optional steps to choose a major based on time:
- Meet with Offices/Resources to align careers and majors
- Attend an Academic Planning Workshop
- Need to change your major? Meet with Transitional Advising
- Meet with Career & Professional Development
- Meet with faculty in the discipline
- This might require emailing or meeting with current faculty or emailing someone for the first time
