Choosing a Major Based on Elimination
Sometimes the best way to find your major is to eliminate majors you do not like and see what is remaining.
Priority steps to choose a major based on elimination:
- This is a listing of all majors
- Mark off majors that are not interesting or attractive to you
- Think solely about the major, not the future career potential, but whether the major and majority of its courses are intriguing.
- With the remaining majors, look at the Major Checksheets to get more data and potentially eliminate more options. Major checksheets include all courses required for the major at Virginia Tech.
- This is a list of questions you could ask when researching majors (Page 1) and a list of all majors to make notes (Page 2)
