What are your major/majors & minors?
I'm double majoring in Clinical Neuroscience and Creative Writing.
When entering Virginia Tech, what majors/themes were you considering?
Coming into college I was so interested in so much that Tech had to offer, especially in terms of majors, since there are so many to choose from. After narrowing some of my options down I found that I either wanted to go into a major somewhat related to psychology and human behavior or writing and literature. Both areas of interest let you explore how someone did something and the resulting story that came from that experience, so that greatly influenced how I decided on a major.
How did you explore majors at Virginia Tech?
Virginia Tech has so many majors to choose from, so picking out from the different ones was difficult at first. I came into Tech with a Neuroscience major, but I had to explore a bit for the Creative Writing major, so speaking with my creative writing professors and the advising office were incredibly helpful. They encouraged me to go see more of what was going on in the creative writing department, like readings or writing series, to get more familiar with what I could potentially produce from my time in creative writing.
When did you declare your major?
I entered into Virginia Tech as an unspecified Neuroscience major and declared both Clinical Neuroscience and Creative Writing in the spring of my sophomore year.
Why do you love Virginia Tech?
I loved the variety of everything that Virginia Tech provides to its students, especially in terms of academia. Entering into college I was a bit torn about whether I wanted to do something with the sciences or if I wanted to do something more humanities-based, but I found that the advisors and different departments at Tech really helped me so I didn't have to choose and was able to pursue both. Because everyone has so many opportunities to pursue a variety of their own interests you find yourself interacting with such fascinating people all over campus.
Briefly describe your favorite moment at Virginia Tech
My favorite moments at Virginia Tech are definitely walking across campus and seeing all the things happening, like dogs playing on the Drillfield or seeing different clubs' tables. Sunsets (and even sunrises) in Blacksburg are also so beautiful to see, especially in the midst of all of the things that might be going on.
